Don’t let the term “Reverse Applique” scare you! It’s super easy and just another look!
Gather your supplies (and your heat n bond lite).
Go here to buy the design: http://www.appliquealley.com
(It will be listed SOON.)
Let me show you!
This is the first placement stitch. For this design, it’s a heart.
Cover with the fabric for your applique and stitch the tack down.
Cut around the tack down stitch.
S
Stitch the Placement for the Whale.

Cover with fabric for whale and stitch the whale tack down. You will be covering the fabric for the heart but we will take care of that soon! Cut around the whale tack down.

Now the zig zag tack down will stitch.

Stitch the heart. You will cut INSIDE This stitch. DO NOT iron over your applique to adhere your heat n bond lite until you cut the heart out.

I use the tip of my applique scissors to poke a tiny hole before cutting inside the stitches. Then just cut around the inside of the heart, leaving just a bit of fabric on the inside. See pictures below.

Notice how I left a little blue fabric on the inside of the heart.

See that wasn’t so scary! That’s all a reverse applique is!

Now you may iron over your fabric to adhere it with the heat n bond lite to the shirt. Please excuse my dirty iron! haha. It is well loved!

Stitch the satin stitch for the whale and that’s it!

All finished!

Add a cute bow to match the reverse applique!
I got the file to make this hair tie knot from here.
